How Macsimum Rocks the Event Industry

For two decades, the event agency Macsimum has crafted thousands of experiences and connections, from digital and hybrid events to massive conferences with thousands of attendees at Oslo Spektrum. One key ingredient in their recipe for success? The Checkin registration system.

Creating Connections

Macsimum has been around since 1996, but they started as an "express agency" delivering promotional products at lightning speed. After getting a taste of event planning, they went all in. Today, Macsimum is a major player in the event industry, based at the tech hub Rebel in Oslo, which they helped establish.

- "We thrive on creating connections between people, and what really sets us apart from our competitors is how personal we are and our willingness to put ourselves out there. Our DNA is all about curiosity and relentless drive. With our team's diverse experience and skills, we always manage to lift each other and our clients," says Knut Wicklund-Hansen, advisor and technical lead at the company.

Plan Every Detail and Anticipate Challenges

Macsimum works with clients in both the private and public sectors. Some are communities run by volunteers who don’t work in events day-to-day. Among them is the annual developer conference JavaZone, which made a big comeback in September after two years of cancellations due to COVID-19. The event has grown from humble beginnings in the basement of Chateu Neuf to thousands of participants at Oslo Spektrum.

- "An event consists of countless small elements that come together to create the experience for the audience. Our job is to plan every little detail and anticipate challenges so that the execution is as smooth as possible. We succeed because we have talented people and carefully handpicked suppliers and tools," says Wicklund-Hansen.

Checkin Saves Us Time and Gives Us Control Over the Customer Journey

One of the key tools in Macsimum’s toolkit is the Checkin registration solution, which they’ve been using for almost eight years. Today, they have one person dedicated solely to Checkin. Before that, they relied on an in-house system that cost more than it was worth.

- "If we could go back in time, we’d definitely have ditched the in-house solutions and switched to Checkin earlier. Checkin saves us time, gives us more control over the entire purchase process, and has made client reporting much easier," says Wicklund-Hansen.

A Norwegian Provider with Local Payment Options Was a Key Decision-Maker

When asked why Macsimum chose Checkin, Wicklund-Hansen explains:

- "We first heard about Checkin about 10 years ago, when we started searching the market for ticketing and reporting solutions. We tested several providers but landed on Checkin. One of the main reasons we chose Checkin over other well-known solutions was the benefit of having a Norwegian provider with local payment options. The system is also user-friendly. I’d highlight the multi-ticket purchase feature, which makes it easy for ticket buyers to distribute tickets to participants. Finally, both we and our clients find Checkin to be incredibly organized, reliable, and quick to respond," concludes Wicklund-Hansen.
